Getting a Brazilian

What is a Brazilian?

The Brazilian wax basically takes ALL the hair away sometimes leaving just a tiny strip of hair in the front (which is then referred to by some as a "landing strip" or a "playboy").

What can I do to prepare?

Avoiding caffeine for 5 hours before getting waxed will greatly reduce sensitivity. Caffeine restricts the blood vessels so skin is not getting as much blood flow which increases sensitivity. Taking an Ibuprofen 1 hour before will aid in reducing sensitivity and inflammation.

Does it hurt?

Yes, it hurts, however, most women find it quite tolerable. Our estheticians work quickly and because they are experienced waxers, the pain is greatly minimized.

How long should I wait to get waxed after I’ve shaved?

3-4 weeks is recommended. It takes time to grow out each of the 3 cycles. If you come in prematurely you may not achieve a desirable result.

How often should I make an appointment?

We recommend booking every 2 - 6 weeks.

Is it OK to shave between wax appointments?

Shaving just one time in between waxings will negate all that is gained from waxing and can further irritate follicles which can cause ingrown hair. So, no, we don’t advise shaving in between.

How long will it last?

If you have been shaving, there may be a transition period. It generally requires 2-3 consistent waxes to achieve optimal results which are: 3-4 weeks of hairlessness, softer hair, and less hair growing back. If you haven't been shaving prior to getting waxed, these results may be obtained more quickly.

I'm on my period. Can I get waxed?

You sure can, however, be aware that women's bodies tend to be more sensitive during this time.

How long does it take?

Our experienced estheticians move quickly. The Brazilian itself should take no longer than 15 to 30 minutes depending on the amount of hair you have.

What can I expect afterwards?

The waxed skin might be tender for a couple of days. We advise taking Ibuprofen to decrease inflammation and skin sensitivity.

What can I do about ingrown hair?

Exfoliating in the shower with a body brush or loofah everyday helps to keep the skin free from cellular buildup which can trap hair. We also carry PFB, a product which helps to prevent and clear the skin of ingrown hair.

Is waxing sanitary?

Yes! Out of concern for your health, we never double dip our wax sticks.

Are there any topical creams or medications that I should avoid prior to getting waxed?

Yes! Internal Medication such as Accutane & antibiotics and topicals that include Retin-A, Salicylic Acid, Glycolic Acid, Differin, Tazorac, Avage, Strivectin, Renova, ProActive, Avita, Benzoyl Peroxide. All of the above mentioned can enhance skin sensitivity that could lead to lifting of the skin when removing hair.
